10 August 2007 (Khonumthung News): A Burmese weaver committed suicide on Wednesday morning in Mizoram state of northeast India. Ko WinTin Aung (30) who was working at K. Vanlalngena’s handloom in Ramhlun south Aizawl, capital of Mizoram state hanged himself with a rope in his work place, sources in Aizawl said.
Ko Win Tin Aung was said to be suffering from Tuberculosis for the last two weeks and he asked his wife to call the Burmese Welfare Association in Aizawl for financial help to buy some medicines as he could not afford to purchase it.
He hanged himself while his wife went out to make a call to the Burmese Social Welfare Association for help.
“I went to call the Burmese Social Welfare Association for help. When I came back home I found him dead”, said Win Tin Aung”s wife.
The association provided a coffin worth Rs. 1500 and buried Ko Win Tin Aung in ZuangTui block in Aizawl city yesterday afternoon.
Similarly, U Tin (35) of Amarapura Town in Mandalay Division committed suicide in Aizawl in 2001 because of financial constraint.
Ko Tin Win Aung was born in Shwe Bo town, Sagaing Division. He came to Mizoram in 1992. He was working as a weaver to support his family.
He leaves behind his wife and four children.
